Hi Guys,
I am relatively new to cognos.... I have seen an option to use Cube as a source in Framework Manager..

My Question is: If we use CUBE as a source, Can we able to construct a relational model?? (since cube have dimensions and measures)

No, the model will only have a type of shortcut to the cube model. You cannot use the cube structure to go from dimensional to relational..

Hi,

You can include a cube data source in your Framework model, and subsequently publish it in a package, however the meta data is not editable.  To edit the metadata you still need to use Transformer.

One of the advantages of including your cube data source in a framework model along with relational data is that you can publish a package that contains both relational and OLAP data.  This allows a report developer to create a report that uses both types of data.

Another advantage is that you can use multiple cubes as a source in Framework Manager and publish a single package for all the cubes. There will be no join between those cubes but you can still have one package for all cubes which will make it possible to make a single report containing data from all cubes (without any joins ofcourse).

The functionality was earlier introduced because prior to 8.3, it was not possible for Transformer or Cognos Admin portion to publish a cube package so FM was the only way to publish a cube package.

Thanks a lot guys for the detailed info..,

You can import cube data source connection in your Framework model,it would import a short cut of the Cube DSN and would allow you to create a package.By this it becomes easier for a developer to publish the package to cognos connection.however if you need to make any changes in the Cube you need to get back to your transformers, open your model there and make the changes.

Thanks,
Hitesh
