Cognos Planning 8.4.1 vs 10.1 Upgrade

Apologies if this question has been answered dozens of times before but we are planning a move from 8.1 to 8.4.1 via 8.3. We only use Analyst and Contributor (not BI).

It has been suggested that we could alternatively go to 10.1 but, with the increased integration of Cognos with TM1, I was concerned that this might require a significant model rebuild (as would be the case if we moved to TM1) or, at the very least, a significant amount of consultancy work to bring the model across.
I am aware that there will be little change to the model going from 8.1 to 8.4.1.

Please note that I am not an IT specialist but are my concerns justified?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Theres a full Cognos Planning 10.1 release that you can migrate up to, that doesnt involve any TM1 components. It has full model compatibilty with previous Cognos Planning releases.
