My users are able to access cognos connection (8.4) from within the office but I want to make it external so I installed a gateway on a server in the DMZ..openned port 9300 and 80 so the server in the DMZ can access the apps server.  Next  as a test, I copied the Dispatcher URI (http://<Cognos8_server_name>:9300/p2pd/servlet/dispatch) into a web browser on  the gateway server to make sure you I can  open the Cognos 8 website. The web site should opened and I was able to login , but didn't get any icons..However I am unable to login from the server on the dmz or externally  when I use http://<server name>/cognos8.
I am using apache 2.2.
I can login find from within  my LAN...HELP

If you are going to use web server access to Cognos 8 via Apache from outside the LAN, I imagine you will need only port 80 open in your outer firewall, but make sure it's allowing 2-way communication.  If you want to bypass the web server and connect directly to the dispatcher, then you will need port 9300 open for 2-way traffic in your outer firewall.  The inner firewall will need port 9300 open for 2-way communication (plus whatever port you are using as the shutdown port).

As a test, can you get to Apache from an external connection using port 80 using http://apacheservername ?  My guess is the answer is no currently, and you will need to configure your outer firewall to allow access via port 80.

Not getting the icons when logging in hitting the Dispatcher directly is the correct behavior (by default) as these are provided by the Gateway.

When you are on the DMZ server, http://<Cognos8_server_name>:9300/p2pd/servlet/dispatch works but with no icons, correct?

What happens when you are on the DMZ server and hit http://localhost/cognos8 (assuming this is the alias you've for the DMZ gateway install)?
