Hello,

i need to change our directory service from LDAP to AD.
The users having identical names in booth directories.

How can i migrate cognos settings (security, tasks, profile, ...) from the LDAP users to the AD users automatically?

Thank you.
Best regards.

Yunus

I don't believe there is an automated process to do this.  As for security if you have not done so in the past, I recommend you don't include inviduals in the Cognos namespace.  Place individuals in groups within AD, then place the group in a Cognos namespace group.  The advantage is that when you migrate from one LDAP to another you only have to add the new groups in Cognos not the individuals, it's a big time saver.

The reason why this is not possible unless you are able to create an LDIF extract that will import into AD is that each object is unique in the Cognos content store.

Even if you create the same user in a new LDAP, this object will be treated as unique in the content store.

A namespace within Cognos has a direct link to MyFolders.  If you change the namespace, then you will also need to consider the ramifications to a users My Folders directory in Cognos.

Before you embark on this journey, I'd strongly advise you to do the following
1.  Take a backup of the database schema hosting the content store for Cognos
2.  Export the entire content store from within Cognos Connection
3.  Create a public folder where a Cognos Administrator can export a users My Folders content.   If you have a few thousand users, then you will need to spend a bit of time doing this or alternatively you could speak to BSP about purchasing the MetaData Manager or if you have an SDK license you could write up an SDK script to automate this.

Once this has been done, then you can safely add a new namespace
It will be important that you look at how you you are going to perform the migration as this will effect all users.

Hope this helps
Cheers
