We've downloaded Cognos Express and I'm attempting to use Report Studio which is vastly different than our current query software.  Every time I try to add two tables to the report, I get an error message telling me cross joins are not permitted.  I don't actually WANT a cross join but I cannot for the life of me find where I can change the type of join??  Thx Brenda

Hi Brenda,

The problem isn't really with your report in Report Studio, it's a fundamental issue with the package you are basing the report on.  This will have been created and published from within Framework Manager.  Ideally, you need to open the Framework Manager project the package came from, and check that all the necessary relationships between the tables have been defined in there.  Once you've identified and added the missing relationships, you will need to re-publish your package, then you should be able to build reports without cross-join errors.

I see.  But say I specified an inner join in framework manager and then wanted to change it to a left outer join for a certain report.  Is there somewhere in Report Studio I can do that?

You could create your own by defining multiple queries in the Query Explorer then adding your own join between the queries. Takes a little work but it should allow you to do this kind of thing.

Hi,

you can create cardinality between two tables which u have created either in the Frame work manager or in the report studio which can avoid the cross join error.

U need to have a common key column to establish the cardinality between the two tables.
