Saving Prompt Values via CC

Hi All,

When prompt values are saved on a report in Cognos Connection, what is actually stored, is it the UseValue or the DisplayValue?  I have a prompt where the UseValue is the month YYYYMM (which changes each month) and the DisplayValue is 'Current Month' (always the same value).  So i've set the default to be 'Current Month' in the report, then saved all the defaults as the report prompts and unchecked the option to prompt for values, but it doesnt automatically roll over when the months change.  So - i suspect the UseValue is being stored or that it is a caching issue.

Anyone know for sure?

Edit: Cognos 8.4 FP2

I believe the use value is determined when the prompt value is set in the report properties or when the report is scheduled. Therefore if you did either of those things today it resolves to 201103 and won't ever change when the month rolls over.

I don't think it is a caching issue but I can't say for sure what is happening behind the scenes. My assmuption was that in order to set the prompts the prompt page is executed and any queries must therefore be run. When the report itself executes it wouldn't be re-running the prompt queries so it couldn't come up with a different 'use' value.

The way I've dealt with this is by making the filter condition dynamic. The use and display values might be 'Current Month' or 'Last Month' or 'YTD' or whatever, and then the filter condition uses current_date accordingly to filter the result set.

Sorry it isn't a definitive answer!
