Hi all,

I have several reports(excel output) which I am bursting to the users through e-mail and till today everything was fine.

Because of the file size limitation issue, sometime the recipient unable to get the attached excel reports.

So the client is asking few things now,

1. If the excel reports can be zipped automatically and sent as email attachment.
2. If the attached excel file can be encrypted, so when the user will open the excel file should be prompted for the 'PWD' to be able to view the excel report.
3. By default, Cognos sends the excel attachment as .mht format. So can it be changed to .xls format?

Pls let me know if you require more details. Your help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks
Prit

I don't know that you could zip/encrypt with out of the box functionality but very likely SDK might help.

Have you tried Excel 2007? The .xlsx is generally much smaller. You can do this even if your users don't have 2007. There is some compatability pack required, explained in the admin guide perhaps?

Thanks Lynn,

What I have noticed is .mht always much bigger than the original .xsl files because .mht always carries its plug-in files as well. So now I am looking at the option that u said if I can send the attachment as .xls/.xlsx instead of .mht.

However, they want these attachments to be encrypted for the security reason. I have no idea about SDK implementation since never done.

If you have any idea or docs on how to get it done with SDK, could you please pass on the same?

Thanks again

I am looking at the below option, does it make a sense?

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Identify all the excel files (which needs to be encrypted and zip) and put it in a separate folder in the file location.

Step 2: Write a java script to encrypt all the excel files (with a Password) and Zip with windows default zip option.

Step 3: Once the Zip file is ready, again through the script we can send it to the email recipient as an attachment.

Thanks
