I need to save the report in file system. It is scheduled too and needed to rename in the version of 8.3. Am not sure whether I need report bursting for my scenario ,since it just need to run after trigger scheduled by batch file (after ETL job using trigger.bat) and need not email any users.
I also have Java codes, .vbs code to rename the reports.

Now my doubt is ,
Do i need report bursting to save it in the file system? can i achieve this using report scheduling?
Does the scheduled report creates .xml file in file system?
Is it possible to rename the reports in the file system without using .xml file?
In the version 8.3, is it possible to save different scheduled reports in different file system (different folders)
Thanks in advance for ur reply

You have to perform bursting to save the report in File System.
Which format you want to save the report in your file system?

Hi,

If you do not intend to create different reports for different recipients then you do not need to burst the report and can instead schedule it based on your trigger to save to an outside file location. Below are the steps as listed in the Cognos Connection guide.  I'm presuming you have already Configured cognos to be able to write to a file location although if you haven't you will find some straightforward instructions in the Install & Config guide and the Administration & Security guide.

"In IBM Cognos Connection, click the run with options button  on the actions toolbar to the right of the report you want to run.

Click Advanced options.

Under Time and mode, click Run in the background, and then click Now or Later.

Under Delivery, choose where you want to save your report:

To save a copy outside IBM Cognos 8, click Save to the file system. To change the report name, click Edit the options. You can also change how file conflict is resolved. Click Keep existing files to not overwrite existing files, Replace existing files to simply overwrite existing files. Click Make the file names unique and append a timestamp or Make the file names unique and append a sequence number to avoid overwriting existing files by making new files with unique timestamps or sequence numbers and click OK.

If more than one file location is defined, select the location where you want to save from the Location list.

Click Run.
"

I can't remember what the output options are for 8.3 although if you need more control over the output then have a look at using the C8CMOutputProcessor as this gives you an extended set of capabilities over vanilla Cognos.  The link is below.

Hi,

With regards to the report renaming have a look at the C8CMOutputProcessor link I provided.  It has a pdf document contained within the package and details what is possible and how to install it.. It may well satisfy your needs, although you will need to make certain yourself before implementing.  It's from IBM and free by the way.

To save a single report to a file system you do not need to burst the report just follow the instructions from the guide.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

Rob

Hi,

I think they just use a burst examples to make the demonstration look more effective, but it's not necessary.  If you think about it if you could only store burst reports to a file location then you would be limited to those reports where you have defined grouping ,whereas you may just want to save an ungrouped list extract instead.

You will be glad to know in Cognos 10 the output now matches the name of the report instead.

Good luck
