Hi, i have to developp a new cognos project. To goal is to provide some complexe reports and basis report "on demand" to the users. The source database will be an MSSQLSERVER. There will be about 200'000 records and 7 dimensions.
So, should I create a model in framework manager or not ?
Sould i create cube with transformer and developp the reports with report studio ?

I'll take all your advices.

Thanks

wow nobody can give some advices ?  ???

Hi Phil,

I think the decision to build or not a cube, should be based on the complexity of the report and also on the "on demand" report, also where you pick your data should be consider.
If you build a cube each week and the user need report for yesterday data, you will have to rebuild the cube on each demand and build the report after that. If you work with Framework manager, directly connect to a database and then FM model is well design you don't have to do that, you will be ready for different demand even the complex one. Personally, I prefer to work with Framework Manager most of the time.

ok thanks so there isnt advantage to build a cube ?

jive

There is some advantage to build cube,
1-portability
2-your information are fix in time if you do incremental cube.

But even if you build a cube you will have to do a package in FrameWork manager anyway. So if it's really small, 200k line like you said I don't see any advantage to do a cube. Most important if you have to create user report on demand the cube, like said it's not the best.

My users really wants use PowerPlay so I need a cube. What kind of framework model should I developp ?

jive

If your user want to used powerplay studio, you will have to define FrameWork with each cube. This is what we do here. Take a cube open it with framework, do a presentation layer. Publish the package and let the user work with Powerplay studio or analyst studio. In a cube your dimension are already define by the model used in transformer so the Framework part is more easy to do.

sorry to answer late I was out of town and go back again out of town for a month.
