Permission Question for Layout Component Reference Source

I have reports that use the layout component reference widget.

There is a folder at the root level of Public Folders called "Component Library" and it contains a report called (you guessed it) "Component Library". This is the report which is referenced by all other reports as the source location for the layout component reference. All these other reports are located elsewhere under public folders, we'll use "Inventory Report" as an example here.

Public Folders > Component Library > Component Library

Public Folders > Someplace > elsewhere > Inventory Report

For production deployment, the ideal situation would be to have permissions set so that regular users do not see the "Component Library" folder but would still be able to run "Inventory Report". It references the "Component Library" report within "Component Library" folder as the source for layout component references.

Have played around with a few variations on the permissions for Component Library folder and Component Library report but it fails with a permission error or content manager (can't locate) error.

Hi Lynn,

Your users will need access to the Component Library report spec within the Component Library folder in order to be able to pick up the XML fragment(s) for the Layout Component References at runtime.  You will need to grant them Traverse privilege to give them access to the folder and probably Read privilege too (maybe even Execute) in order to give them the relevant permissions to access the report spec xml.

You could always hide the folder if that would be a secure enough option?

Thanks Mark. I did not think about simply hiding the silly thing! Where is the icon for hand slapping forehead?

It is really just to avoid unnecessary clutter for the users so that works perfectly.

Hi Lynn,

Don't worry - I have many of these classic "Doh!" moments - usually multiple times each day! :)  One of my colleagues often comments "You muppet" whenever this happens.  That's where my alter-ego comes from... :D

Cheers!
