Upgrade Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 8.4.1

Hi,

I'm testing upgrade Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 8.4.1. I made a test environment like:
1. Made a P2V (Physical to Virtual) from Prod to Dev (Application server is Windows 2003 32 bit)
2. Change the server name
3. Uninstall Cognos 8.4
4. Install Cognos 8.4.1.
5. Backup database Content_Store (MSSQL Server 2008) from Prod and restored to Dev (MSSQL Server 2008)
6. Modify connection to Content Store to use SQL user in place of Windows authentication.
7. Recreate all parameters in IBM Cognos Configuration (for Dev environment)

When I start the service I get an error, but the service starts after a periode of time and the Cognos Web site seems to be correct. I have all the settings, reports and so on...
I tried all the fix I found on IBM suport and on Web, but unsuccesfully.
Twice the services started without error but after that I get the error every time I start the service. The error apears after  "Log Service", "Succes".
13:51:43, 'LogService', 'StartService', 'Success'.
[ ERROR ] CFG-ERR-0103 Unable to start IBM Cognos 8 service.

Any sugestion?

I made even a fresh install on Windows 2008 R2 and I get the same error (I still have some other errors but the service starts as in Windows 2003). I'm allways in a Dev environment.

Hi,

Regarding the error, I opened a Suport Call with IBM Cognos. I want just let you know that the error was introduced by FP 3 (Fixed Pack 3) that I installed once the installation of Cognos BI 8.4.1 was done. The others FP do not introduce this error. This was confirmed by Cognos programmers and it's a misleading error that do not impact the service. Since that is not critical, Cognos is not commited to fix it soon. The error apears only when you start the service from IBM Cognos Configuration. I asked the Support team to put the explanation of this error on their support site, so somebody else will benefit of this knowledge. Me, I spent a lot of time trying to fix this error. My bad luck was the fact that the day when I downloaded the most recent FP, the FP 3 was just released, in the same day.

We have the same error. When starting the Cognos service this error is raised, but the service starts. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next fix pack

We are getting the same error.  So far we've only applied FP3 to our dev env.  We are also experiencing errors on all our portals using the Cognos Viewer after applying FP3.  Until these issues are fixed, we will not apply FP3 to our other envs.
