Report Studio Stopped Working after Degrade From 8.4 to 8.1 (there we reasons why we did this)

anyway we are getting this error on our server...cognos 8.1

CM-REQ-4158 The search path "/configuration/uiProfileFolder//uiProfile[permission("execute")]" is invalid.

Details :

CM-REQ-4016 This search path contains an invalid class name "uiProfileFolder".

Degrade? What exactly did you do? It is unlikely that things keep working if you use 8.4 versions in a 8.1 environment..

A152257

We Un-Installed Cognos 8.4   :(

Re-Installed  Cognos 8.1

Then Report Studio Stopped Working Completely.

Are you using the same content store?

Cognos will upgrade the content store to meet 8.4 specifications (with varying degrees of success) when you connect to it through Cognos Configuration, I do not believe it can degrade those specifications again.

I completely concur with Ties and Paul on this - you would need to replace the content store and configuration folders with 8.1 versions as the 8.4 specifications are different.

I'm amazed you would downgrade from a supported version to an old, unsupported, less stable version of Cognos 8.  It must be a cracker of an issue to force you to expose your business to a risk like this!

@ Paul : We are using the The Content Store before we upgraded to Cognos 8.4

The Main Reason why we Downgraded is that Cognos 8.4 didn't show the reports under MYFOLDERS for Business Users.

This was Critical For Business Users to See they own  created Reports.

Hence we Downgraded. (after the Downgrade to Cognos 8.1, Users were able to see their Reports under MYFOLDERS)

The Problem now  is that Report Studio Wont run Now. :(

Not quite following you here, sorry.  Are you saying that a user can't store items on their My Folders page in 8.4?  This certainly should not be the case - I'm guessing either the content store did not upgrade properly, or you are using a different security namespace, but either way, you should be able to get 8.4 up and running properly with users having access to their own personal reports.

Users are not able see Their reports that were Created under My Folders While they we were on Cognos 8.1 (after the upgrade to cognos 8.4, users could not see their reports under MY FOLDER where else on 8.1 they can)

MFGF

OK.  Two questions:

1. Are you using the same security namespace in 8.4 vs 8.1?
2. Did you take a full deployment export of the 8.1 content store and import it into a new content store database for 8.4, or did you simply point 8.4 at the old 8.1 content store database and allow it to upgrade?

My 2 cents: they are lost.  :-\ A more secure way is to export all content and re-import..

A152257

@ MFGF

We are still using the Cognos 8.1 namespace. (Series 7 )

We Did not do an Full Export.

We simply upgrade to Cognos 8.4 and made it to point to the Current Content Store.

It sounds like the upgrade process did not complete properly.  This probably also explains why Report Studio does not work when you point 8.1 back at the content store. Do you have a copy of the Content Store database from before you pointed 8.4 at it?

I completely agree with the moderators here. When you pointed 8.4 to the Content Store of 8.1, 8.4 would have stamped the Content Store and it is not backward compatible so now your Content Store cannot be used in 8.1 When you installed 8.1 again, did the Configuration even test properly?

If you have a backup of the Content Store BEFORE you pointed 8.4 at it, then restore from the Backup and use that in 8.1

The reason your user's reports did not show up in their My Folders is because something went wrong when you pointed 8.4 to the Content Store of 8.1. It is a safe way to create a new Content Store for 8.4 and use Cognos deployment archive option to dump and load the entire Content Store.

Hi All

I have managed to Find the Solution. And this solution was something i never even thought of.

The Problem Lied with the INTERNET EXPLORER. I'm Using IE 8.

What i did was RESET INTERNET EXPLORER SETTINGS under Internet Option | @ the Advanced Tab.

I did this to other machines That were Using IE 6 and It Worked Fine.  :)

Regards,

Mike
