Hi guys,

Kinda new to TM1 and trying to understand the logic of changing data in a cube cell.
If you edit the data in a cell, does that change the underlying data of the cube right down to the data source? What instances would someone want to edit data?

I have tm1 web view and server explorer cube view of the same cube view. When i edit the cell data in tm1 web, i refresh in server explorer and new entry is updated. But i can't edit it vice versa in server explorer. Anyone know why?

Thanks

TM1 has a persistent data store. When you change values they update the cube in RAM and are written through to the log files (unless you are so unwise as to turn logging off). When an administrator does a Save Data All (or a TI job is run to execute it), the cube is updated on the disk.
If you are loading data from an external source, this would replace the changes you have input manually.
TM1 is used extensively for budgeting, planning and modelling, where some data at least is input directly, not loaded from somewhere else. It's up to the designer to put the appropriate security on the cubes to separate manually input data from data populated by TI loads.
And yes, with the correct permissiions you can change data in TM1 Web and in Server Explorer. You may not be working at precisely the same level in the two environments - data can only be changed at base level, unless you use spreading.
I do recall an obscure settting to block data entry in Web, but your situation seems to be the opposite. Recheck your views.

Assuming of course that you are logged in as the same user with the same security settings, my next assumption is that you were looking at a consolidated view.  As of TM1 9.5.1 the default data entry behaviour for TM1 web when entering over a consolidation point was changed to do a proportional spread automatically rather then the user having to enter "p" before the value.  This was to make web consistent with Contributor, however this also made consolidated data entry inconsistent with the thick client cube viewer and Excel.

Enter a p before the value (e.g. "p1000") and you should find that you can then enter data in the cube viewer just the same as the web cube viewer.
