Installing Cognos Express 9.0 in multiple Servers

Hello you all.

We need to perform an installation of Cognos Express 9.0 where the gateway is located in other cumputer than the Express Server (both servers are 64).

We tried it by doing the following:

* First we installed CognosExpressGateway.zip placed in the istallation root (app server) on a different computer (gateway server).

* Later, we started an configured Cognos Configuration in both servers (app and gateway) and created the virtual directories in the gateway computer:

IBMCognosExpress -> express_gateway_location/Cognos Express Gateway/webcontent
IBMCognosExpress/cgi-bin -> express_gateway_location/Cognos Express Gateway/cgi-bin
cognos_express -> express_gateway_location/Cognos Express Gateway/cognos_express

* To finish, we modified the system.xml located in /templates/ps/ in the app server changing the welcome page to "<param name ="welcomeURLOverride">http://appServer:19300/cognos_express/manager/welcome.html</param>
".

But it didn't work.
I can't see how the user can access, for instance, TM1 when the virtual directory for that is located in the app server (not in the gateway). Also there is the welcome page...

Is it possible separate the gateway in Cognos Express?
Any ideas?

Not intentionally - it's built to be a single server install, no partitioning.  You might get it to work, but it would not be supported and it would not be in compliance.

It seems that IBM has left the product half-built, for it only works under very restricted environments...

No it's not unbelievable.  This product is aimed at the mid-market where the whole concept is for single sever "application in a box".  The fact that CX supports only a single TM1 database server instance and must use CAM is a far more significant and restrictive condition, ... but that's the whole point of the mid-market offering. Yes it is a bit one size fits all but the enterprise software is always available (but at a much higher price.)
