Accessing DB2 files on an AS/400

We use Impromptu 7.4 Client version to access DB2 libraries on an AS/400. Currently we are accessing the AS/400 through an ODBC connection on the PC going across a WAN to the AS/400.

Is there any other method of being able to access the DB2 files on the AS/400 (i.e. a native connection of some sort)?

Are there optimization processes/changes that can be performed to ensure the best efficiency of the application?

Are there compatibility issues with Cognos 7.4 and versions of IBM Client Access?

Thanks for your help.

We are also using ISeries ODBC drivers to access AS400.

There is no direct connector for AS400 so ODBC is the way... As for optimization, you can find a lot of information about this on google.

I agree that ODBC is the way to go.   Use iSeries Navigator Index Advisor to build indexes for performance considerations.  Always reference the physical file (not a logical file) or a view in the catalog.  The iSeries will figure the best access path for performance.
